Crown Law welcomes three new senior lawyers

Crown Law is pleased to announce three recent senior appointments.
We recently welcomed Michael Lucey as Deputy Crown Solicitor in our Civil Advocacy and Prosecutions Branch, Daniel Ryan as Assistant Crown Solicitor in the Constitutional Law Team and Damian Riggall as Assistant Crown Solicitor in the Workplace Law 1 Team.

Michael Lucey, Deputy Crown Solicitor, Civil Advocacy and Prosecutions
Michael joins us from McCullough Robertson, where he was a Partner in the Litigation and Dispute Resolution Practice, with a core focus on government and regulatory practice. He is widely regarded as a leading public law specialist and has been ranked consistently in Doyle’s Guide, and more recently the Legal 500 Asia Pacific, for his expertise in administrative and public law.
Across two decades in practice, Michael has developed deep expertise in complex public law and regulatory prosecutions. He has acted in hundreds of matters spanning occupational discipline, health, education, transport, and professional regulation, and has appeared regularly before tribunals as well as the State, Federal and High Courts. He is a trusted adviser to Queensland, Commonwealth, and local government agencies on issues central to public administration, including judicial review, statutory interpretation, governance, human rights, and integrity. His experience includes secondments with Racing Queensland and the Department of State Development, Infrastructure and Planning, further strengthened his ties to the Queensland public sector and his understanding of the unique responsibilities and challenges of government work.
Daniel Ryan, Assistant Crown Solicitor, Constitutional Law
Daniel is a skilled public law practitioner who has practised exclusively in government law at both the State and Commonwealth level since 2011.
He regularly provides advice and representation across a various jurisdictions including the High Court of Australia, the Federal Court and State Courts.
Daniel has broad public law experience with particular expertise in complex judicial review and merits review, novel matters of statutory interpretation, and taxation matters, at first instance and on appeal. He is an experienced leader who takes a client-focused and strategic approach to his work to achieve the best possible outcomes.
Damian Riggall, Assistant Crown Solicitor, Workplace Law 1
Damian joins us from private practice, where he was a Partner at Thynne & Macartney in Brisbane. He brings more than a decade of legal experience, with expertise in employment, industrial relations, human rights, discrimination, and professional liability. Damian has acted for both employers and employees across a wide range of matters, including unfair dismissal, adverse action, underpayment, sexual harassment, and workplace investigations. He has appeared in the Fair Work Commission, Federal Court and Federal Circuit and Family Court, Queensland Human Rights Commission, and the Queensland Industrial Relations Commission.
Damian is an accomplished litigator with a strong record of managing complex matters and providing strategic legal advice in high-stakes environments. His experience also includes significant work in disciplinary and regulatory proceedings, including acting for allied health professionals in matters before the Office of the Health Ombudsman and QCAT.
