Phoebe is an employment and industrial relations law specialist.

She advises on complex employee management matters and conducts proceedings in various courts and tribunals relating to unfair dismissals, general protections, bullying, unpaid wages, discrimination, workers’ compensation and public service appeal proceedings.

Phoebe will be presenting on the management of ill employees at our legal conference with her colleague, Peta Tyquin. Phoebe and Peta will focus on a number of issues relevant to the management of ill employees including managing employees to minimise the risk of discrimination, victimisation and unlawful requests for information complaints under anti-discrimination legislation; action taken in relation to employees under Chapter 3, Part 8, Division 5 of the Public Sector Act 2022; and managing employees to minimise the risk of workers’ compensation claims.

Phoebe shares a bit more about herself below …

I’ve been practicing law for: 12 years.

I’ve been working at Crown Law for: 8 years.

Prior to that, I: worked for the Queensland Ambulance Service and the Queensland Industrial Relations Commission.

What drew you to the area of law you’re practising in: I first became interested in workplace law and industrial relations when working casual hospitality and retail jobs as a teenager.

My conference topic is relevant/important to government officers because: everyone gets sick – regardless of profession, skills, experience or workplace. The Queensland Public Sector has its own framework for managing ill and injured employees and it is important that government officers understand this framework so that such employees are managed appropriately and positive outcomes can be achieved for both the employee and their workplace.

To wind down I like to: run and visit the park with my two year old.

I enjoy working at Crown Law because: of the variety of matters that we get briefed in which provide unique and interesting insights into the many different disciplines and areas of the community covered by the Queensland public sector.
