Angela Murphy

Special Counsel

Angela is a Special Counsel in Crown Law’s Commercial and Property Team with more than 20 years’ experience. Angela has worked in government for more than eight years at Crown Law and on secondments to Department of State Development, Infrastructure, Local Government and Planning/Minister for Economic Development Queensland and Department of Transport and Main Roads.

Prior to joining Crown Law, Angela worked in private practice at the Brisbane office of a top tier law firm and in the UK.

Angela has acted for a wide range of clients including State government departments, statutory bodies, government owned corporations, listed companies, major property funds and national retailers. Angela specialises in all aspects of property law.

Angela has acted for State government departments and statutory bodies in relation to:

  • The acquisition, development and leasing of social housing, crisis accommodation, affordable housing and government employee accommodation.
  • Establishment of emergency accommodation at hotels, motels and student accommodation during the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • Complex tenure advice relating to all State land tenures including non-freehold land under the Land Act 1994 and Indigenous land.
  • The acquisition of land for the development of new schools and school expansions including negotiating compensation.
  • Advice in relation to State-controlled roads and busways under the Transport Infrastructure Act 1994 and the Transport Planning and Coordination Act 1994.
  • Legal advice and documentation for the State-managed boat harbours.
  • Legal advice and documentation for the portfolio of commercial land and buildings managed by the Queensland Government Accommodation Office.
  • Drafting all types of property documents including leases, easements, sale contracts, infrastructure agreements, development agreements and compensation agreements.

In private practice, Angela acted in relation to:

  • acquisitions, sales and leasing of shopping centres, industrial parks and office buildings
  • the sale of a portfolio of fourteen resorts and the acquisition of numerous hotels and resorts including a portfolio of five hotels
  • advice and transaction work acting for the owner of a portfolio of over one hundred service stations
  • redevelopment of large shopping centres and office buildings
  • property due diligence and documentation for the creation of a property fund to hold a national portfolio of shopping centres
  • establishment of unit trusts and other structures to hold real estate assets in the UK
  • the property aspects of high-profile corporate mergers, acquisitions and schemes of arrangement
  • the property aspects of major infrastructure and resources projects.
