The Queensland Government Customer and Digital Group (QGCDG) recently published a guideline concerning Microsoft’s artificial intelligence (AI) systems M365 Copilot and Copilot: Controlling the exposure of data with M365 copilot and Microsoft copilot in Queensland Government guideline.

The guideline sets out data control considerations for Microsoft’s two AI systems: M365 Copilot and Copilot.  The guideline provides guidance only and does not seek to formally regulate the use of Microsoft’s AI systems by Queensland Government agencies.

The guideline should be read together with other relevant publications concerning the use of AI and Copilot, including the Queensland Government’s Use of generative AI in Queensland Government guideline and the Office of the Information Commissioner’s Microsoft Copilot and the privacy risks of using generative AI guideline.

The use of AI systems, including Copilot, is likely to be formally regulated by a policy in the near future.
