Thomas McLaughlin

Senior Principal Lawyer

Thomas has worked almost exclusively in insurance law since graduating university with a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Journalism in 2018. Prior to joining Crown Law in 2021, Thomas worked in the private sector, where he acted on instructions from various clients including international and national insurers, global mining companies, statutory bodies, and self-insureds in the defence of complex product, catastrophic compulsory third-party, medical, property, and public liability disputes.

As part of Crown Law’s Government Insurance and Risk Team, Thomas specialises in public liability and workers compensation claims against the State of Queensland.

Thomas’ experience includes:

  • Acting on behalf of Department of Education in its first successful stay of proceedings application.
  • Managing a litigated portfolio of complex and high-profile matters involving public liability, dependency, historical child sexual abuse, and catastrophic injuries.
  • Delivering annual legal seminars to government clients, and presenting internal CLEs to professional staff.
