Statutory interpretation training workshop

Queensland Government officers who apply and interpret legislation as part of their daily duties are encouraged to attend Crown Law’s statutory interpretation workshops, which provide practical information on how to interpret and apply legislation in government roles.

The key topics covered in our half-day statutory interpretation training workshop are:

  • General approach to statutory interpretation
  • Parliamentary intention
  • Principle of legality
  • Acts Interpretation Act 1954
  • Tools of interpretation
  • Human Rights Act 2019
  • Extrinsic material
  • Statutory Instruments Act 1992
  • Constitutional issues
  • Checklist for undertaking statutory interpretation matters.

Government lawyers who attend this training are eligible to claim three CPD points per session.

Crown Law training workshops are only available to Queensland Government officers.

2025 workshop dates:

  • Wednesday, 19 February (IN-PERSON FULL) Teams available
  • Tuesday, 20 May (IN-PERSON FULL) Teams available

Time: 9:00 am to 12:30 pm.
Cost: $435 per person (GST inclusive). Morning tea (if attending in person) and a training manual of reference material is provided.
Venue: State Law Building, 50 Ann Street, Brisbane and via Microsoft Teams
